A cell is a geographic area covered by a cellular network. It consists of a base station, which contains radio equipment and antennas, and a control unit. The size of a cell varies depending on the number of users in the area and the frequency of radio waves used. In a cellular network, each cell is assigned a unique frequency, so adjacent cells do not interfere with each other. The cell boundaries are defined in such a way that the signal strength is strong enough for the user to have a good communication experience. When a user moves from one cell to another, the call or data session is handed over to the next cell, ensuring that the user does not experience any interruption.

Paging पेजिंग:-
Paging is a process used by the cellular network to locate a mobile device when it is not actively communicating with the network. When a mobile device is turned on, it registers with the network, and the network assigns it to a cell. The network keeps track of the cell location of the mobile device, and when there is an incoming call or message, the network pages the device. Paging involves broadcasting a signal to all cells in the area to find the specific cell in which the mobile device is located. Once the device is located, the network establishes a communication link with the device.

In a cellular network, handoff refers to the process of transferring an ongoing call or data session from one base station (cell) to another as a mobile device moves throughout the network. Handoff is essential to maintain uninterrupted communication and provide seamless connectivity for mobile users.

When the signal strength of the serving cell falls below a certain threshold, indicating that the mobile device is moving away or the signal quality is degrading, the handoff process begins.

If the mobile device determines that a handoff is necessary, it sends a handoff request to the current serving cell. The serving cell then coordinates the handoff process with the target cell.The serving cell and the target cell exchange control messages to transfer the call or data session smoothly. This involves synchronizing the channels and informing the network about the handoff.Once the handoff is successfully executed, the mobile device establishes communication with the target cell.
